Tractor-drawn trailers for silage, maize, biomass and wood chips – high capacity, low tare weight and safe transport at 40 and 60 km/h

Metsjö trailers are specifically developed for professional transport of silage, forage, maize, wood chips and biomass where high transport capacity, low fuel consumption and efficient logistics are critical.

Thanks to smart chassis engineering, low tare weight and optimized geometry, Metsjö trailers can often transport larger volumes with a shorter overall length compared to conventional agricultural trailers. This makes the combination more manoeuvrable on the road, easier to handle on farms and more efficient when transporting between fields, silos, biogas plants and heating facilities.

The low tare weight enables:

Higher payload capacity
Lower fuel consumption
More cubic metres transported per trip
Lower transport cost per tonne or cubic metre

For transport of silage, maize and biomass, stability at high volume is critical. Metsjö’s advanced chassis geometry, hydraulic suspension and low centre of gravity provide excellent stability even with high bodies and large transport volumes.

The trailers can be equipped with very large wheels within legal vehicle width limits, providing:

Low soil compaction
Improved off-road capability
Gentler field operation
Reduced risk of getting stuck

Combined with laser-aligned axles and optimized weight distribution, Metsjö trailers roll efficiently both on the road and in rough terrain – developed for modern high-capacity transport in agriculture and bioenergy logistics.

EU type approved agricultural trailers and hook lift trailers according to Regulation (EU) 167/2013

Modern transport operations in agriculture, construction and biomass logistics place increasingly high demands on efficiency, safety and sustainability.

Longer transport distances, higher transport speeds, rising fuel costs, reduced labour availability and stricter road regulations are driving the need for more advanced transport solutions.

To meet these demands, Metsjö develops advanced tractor-drawn transport platforms engineered for:

High transport efficiency
Low operating costs
Low soil compaction
Safe high-speed transport
Long-distance agricultural logistics
Future-proof transport solutions

Metsjö offers EU type approved agricultural trailers and hook lift trailers according to Regulation (EU) 167/2013 – the European framework regulation for agricultural and forestry vehicles.

The approvals include:

40 km/h
60 km/h

and the categories:

R3A
R3B
R4A
R4B

depending on axle configuration, suspension system and specification.

This enables:

Harmonized approval across the EU
Simplified registration
Compatibility between European markets
Legal high-speed agricultural transport
Efficient long-distance logistics

Approval for 60 km/h agricultural trailers is still uncommon within the industry and places Metsjö among a limited number of manufacturers offering high-speed transport solutions without compromising safety, stability or durability.

EU type approval is available for Metsjö transport platforms including:

MetaQ modular trailers
MetaFlex hook lift trailers
MetaK push-off trailers

allowing solutions to be configured according to local regulations, operational requirements and tractor specifications.

Engineered for safety at higher transport speeds

Transporting heavy loads at 40 or 60 km/h requires much more than powerful brakes. Stability, chassis geometry, suspension systems and intelligent safety systems become essential.

All EU-approved Metsjö trailers can be equipped with:

ABS braking systems
Load-sensing air brakes
Trailer Safety Systems with RSS (Roll Stability Support)
Side marker lights with integrated indicators

These systems improve:

Braking stability
Roll-over resistance
Directional stability
Road safety
Transport stability
Traffic visibility

even under demanding transport conditions, heavy loads and high speeds.

Hydraulic suspension engineered for stability and efficiency

One of Metsjö’s greatest technical advantages is the advanced hydraulic suspension system developed for:

High-speed transport
Low soil compaction
Active weight transfer
Maximum stability
Improved vehicle control

Unlike conventional suspension systems, Metsjö’s hydraulic suspension combines:

Laser-aligned axles
Active load distribution
Optimized chassis geometry
High roll stability

This is especially important when transporting:

High-volume silage bodies
Hook lift containers
Loads with a high centre of gravity
Biomass and bulk materials

The hydraulic suspension system contributes to:

Improved transport stability
Lower rolling resistance
Reduced tyre wear
Better tracking stability
Lower fuel consumption
Reduced ground impact

MetaQ – modular trailer platform with interchangeable bodies

The MetaQ series is an advanced modular trailer platform approved for interchangeable bodies.

Unlike conventional agricultural trailers, MetaQ allows the body to be changed depending on the application.

The same chassis can be used for:

Silage transport
Grain transport
Gravel and dumper transport
Bale transport
Machinery transport
Biomass transport
Bulk logistics

Since the largest part of the investment cost lies in the chassis, suspension, braking system and axle platform, the MetaQ concept offers significant economic advantages.

Instead of investing in several complete trailers, the same high-performance chassis can be used year-round for multiple applications.

This improves:

Annual utilization rate
Transport efficiency
Long-term profitability
Operational flexibility
Resale value

MetaQ specifications

MetaQ is available with body lengths from:

4 metres

up to:

9.5 metres

Transport capacity:

Up to 55 m³ silage
Up to 40 m³ grain
Up to 25 m³ gravel or aggregate

MetaQ is available in:

3-axle configurations
4-axle configurations

with approved gross vehicle weights up to:

44 tonnes

The high capacity enables:

Fewer transport cycles
Lower fuel consumption per transported tonne
Higher efficiency during peak season

Documented low fuel consumption and low soil compaction

Independent Swedish studies have verified the operational advantages of Metsjö’s chassis concept.

Studies show:

Approximately 25% lower fuel consumption compared to conventional systems
Approximately 50% lower soil compaction compared to traditional trailers

These advantages are made possible through:

Laser-aligned axles
Low tare weight
Optimized weight distribution
Hydraulic suspension
Large wheels
Multiple axles
Efficient chassis geometry

Approximately 50% lower soil compaction according to RISE

A study conducted by RISE showed that:

A fully loaded MetaQ 75 generated approximately 50% lower soil compaction despite having twice the payload capacity.

The study also concluded:

That MetaFlex and MetaQ have similarly low ground impact
That the risk of subsoil compaction is very low or non-existent
That adding a fourth axle can reduce soil compaction by more than 20%
That advanced chassis design and weight distribution have greater impact than low tyre pressure alone
