Metsjö invests in Europes largest tube laser
METSJÖ, Sweden (23 Sept 2024)
Ivarssons in Metsjö has put into production a 40-meter-long tube laser machine with 3D cutting capability. The machine can cut square and round pipes in lengths up to 15 meters loading and 15 meters unloading of full-length cut pipes. The dimensions of the pipes that the machine can handle are from 20x20mm to 350x350 mm. The precision of the tube laser is high with a margin of error of 0.06 mm. The new machine is Europe's largest pipe laser in terms of the length of pipe that the machine can handle. It has taken two years to build the machine.
3D cutting
The machine has 3D cutting capabilities because it can tilt the head 45 degrees. This allows the machine to chamfer edges and thereby, for example, prepare welding joints. Because the machine is so precise, in combination with the fact that Metsjö already has several advanced laser cutting machines for sheet metal, Metsjö can make construction parts fit together like a puzzle. An example of such a construction is that you can insert a reinforcement tube and weld it on both the outer edge and the inner edge, which gives a high strength and a lower own weight.
The machine enables the construction of even larger trailers and Hook lifts
This machine makes it easier for us to build large trailers and hook lifts, says Metsjö's CEO Anders Ivarsson. We already build some of the world's largest trailers and hook lifts today, for example the MetaK 120 unloader wagon that holds 90 cubic meters. When you build large constructions, you don't want to join smaller tube parts, the joint makes the structure's strength worse and its own weight heavier. Since we can now cut chassis tubes up to 15 meters in length without joints and with extreme precision, our construction of the future's large hook lifters and trailers is of course simplified. We buy steel directly from steel works and large square pipes are normally delivered in 12-15 meter lengths. The fact that the machine can handle such long pipes means that we can skip the initial production step of sawing.
About Metsjö
Metsjö is a village just outside Linköping in Sweden. Metsjö has 80 employees and a large production facility of 30,000 SQM with some of Europe's largest production machines. In Metsjö, we have all production steps, and all welding takes place in Metsjö. Metsjö manufactures trailers, hook lifts and mobile warehouses. Metsjö still has the farm active where all the grain that is grown is consumed in Metsjö's own bio-heating plant that heats the factory. The company is still completely family-owned with Anders Ivarsson as CEO.
